This Guide is compiled annually by the Australian Law Students’ Association and contains information about postgraduate scholarships available to Australian law students.
More and more anecdotal evidence reveals that students are seeking postgraduate study immediately after completing undergraduate study. The competitive nature of the current legal market means that graduates are seeking to distinguish themselves in ways additional to extra curricular university involvement – post-‐graduate study.
The Guide encompasses scholarships available both domestically and internationally. While this Guide attempts to cover the major scholarships available to students, it details only the tip of the metaphorical iceberg of scholarships and bursaries available. Applicants should conduct their own research in addition to this guide when considering financial assistance. It should also be noted that this guide is aimed at students completing their undergraduate degree and not to those returning to study from practice.
Information about scholarships available at each university has not been included in the interests of space and acknowledging the ease with which the information may be accessed. However the Guide does contain a University Scholarships Directory that lists the most appropriate contact point for scholarships programs at each university.
The Guide is best considered in conjunction with the informative articles published in previous guides. In particular articles on applying for scholarships and application tips in the 2010 Guide and some thoughts on whether and how to apply for post-‐graduate study in the 2009 Guide.
