06/06/2011. ALSA announces Clayton Utz as exclusive sponsor of ALSA Conference 2011 The Australian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) is pleased to announce that its 2011 Conference will be sponsored by leading Australasian law firm Clayton Utz.
Matthew Floro, ALSA President said: “This is the second consecutive year that Clayton Utz has sponsored the ALSA Conference. We are proud to have one of Australasia’s premier firms as the exclusive sponsor of Australia's premier law student event.”
Clayton Utz's Chief Executive Partner, Darryl McDonough, said the firm was proud to be associated with the ALSA Conference which brings together Australia's next generation of legal talent. "You cannot help but be impressed by the legal talent in Australia. In particular the young lawyers we see in the profession are first rate. The ALSA Conference provides a wonderful opportunity for law students to network with one another and hear from a number of prominent experts on a broad range of legal issues."
This year's conference will see delegates from across Australia, New Zealand participate in a week of competitions, council meetings and social events across Sydney.
“Around 20 per cent of the attendees at the 33rd annual Conference will be from overseas, reflecting the importance of ALSA as the leading student body in Australia and one of the pre-eminent bodies in the local region,” Mr Floro said.
In another coup for the 2011 ALSA Clayton Utz Conference, General Peter Cosgrove AC MC will present the keynote address at the Opening Gala dinner to be held at the Hilton Grand Ballroom Sydney. General Cosgrove will bring a unique perspective to his view on the law from his vast experience in the armed forces and dealing with the public and government.
In addition to General Cosgrove, ALSA has secured the President of the Law Council of Australia, Mr Alexander Ward, the President of the Australian Law Reform Commission, Professor Rosalind Croucher and the Chair of the Australian Press Council, Mr Julian Disney, to attend and speak on various educational forums throughout the week.
ALSA has for many years taken the lead in recognising the problems within the profession and universities in relation to mental health. The Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation will present a workshop on health and wellbeing at the conference in conjunction with Resilience@Law, again placing ALSA at the forefront of tangible benefits to students in the mental health space. The Conference held a launch party Friday May 21 at the Shelbourne Hotel for the remaining passes for the Conference, another new initiative this year in recognition of the popularity of the 2011 Conference.
“The 2011 ALSA Clayton Utz Conference is gearing up to be one of the most memorable events of your university career and I encourage all students to attend and experience the amazing opportunities open to you,” Mr Floro said.
