ALSAtv Starts Streaming in Law Week

20/05/2011. The Australian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) has launched its ALSAtv YouTube vodcast series to mark Law Week 2011.

“Last week, a Federal Budget boost of over $400 million was promised, injecting funds into services for youth mental health,” Melissa Coade, Vice-President (Education) said.

“Today, ALSA will also deliver with a special vodcast series as part of its ‘ALSAtv’ initiative to help Australian law students cope and succeed in law,” she said.

The first vodcast features an excerpt of an address by Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation Co-Director Marie Jepson to the recent ALSA April Council Meeting held at the University of Newcastle. Mrs Jepson spoke about the vital work of the Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation and the importance of integrating health and wellbeing programs into curriculum.

An iniative of the ALSA Depression and Mental Health Working Party, the vodcasts have been developed as a tool and resouce for Law Students’ Societies nation-wide. Primarily, they aim to affect attitudes toward mental health in law schools.

“We encourage all Australian law students to watch ALSAtv as we highlight critical issues concerning depression and mental health in law schools and the profession.”

ALSA’s upcoming vodcasts include an interview with the Commonwealth Attorney-General and other key legal and mental health figures. They will go live in the weeks leading up to the annual ALSA July Conference (8-14 July).
