Legal Competitions are a strong tradition in Australian law schools. Participation affords students the opportunity to develop practical legal skills and improve legal research and reasoning skills. Almost every law school in Australia runs some kind of legal competition program, often facilitated by the campus law student society.

ALSA is proud to facilitate competition by the best of the best; the winners of each law school's internal competitions. The national finals of legal competitions are held at the annual July Conference. In many competitions, the winners go on to compete at the international finals.

The national finals of the following competitions are facilitated by ALSA:

  • Mooting
  • Witness Examination
  • Negotiation
  • Client Interviewing
  • Paper Presentation
  • International Humanitarian Law Moot
  • National Essay Competition
  • Kirby Cup

To learn more about each competition, please select from the options in the menu above.

ALSA maintains banks of questions for the championships in our online Members' Area. We are also happy to share problems with Law Students' Associations outside of Australia and organisations which run similar competitions for secondary school students or practitioners - please contact Parker Reeve (IT Officer) at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
